Our Story

It started with one customer and a grandchild’s cupcakes.

Nine years later, Chef Alvin — Tampa knows him as the Cupcakekilla — bakes fresh every day and gives every tip away.

On February 3, Alvin walked away from his previous job after disagreements over his efforts to feed homeless people. He wasn’t going to stop showing up for his community — so he didn’t.

As he was leaving, a customer asked him for one favor: make cupcakes for her grandchild. He baked them, posted the photos on social media, and Tampa noticed. He sold about 13 dozen cupcakes that first week. The second week it was 55 dozen. He never looked back.

Last Thanksgiving, Cupcake City 813 turned out roughly 410 dozen cupcakes — nearly five thousand cupcakes for one holiday, every one of them baked fresh.

The community that built this business still comes first. Tips collected at Cupcake City 813 are donated to school food pantries, and Alvin keeps showing up around Tampa — from neighborhood events to City Hall.

Alvin is always striving to be the best, and he’s building a brand Tampa recognizes: gourmet cupcakes, custom cakes, and cheesecakes from the baker they call the Cupcakekilla.
